Hajdúböszörményi Bocskai István Gimnázium
One of the most impressive buildings of our town is Bocskai István Secondary Grammar School (BISS)which is located on the Main Square. Having a look at its history, the school was
built in the 17th century and since then it has been a well-known educational centre and touristic attraction.
With its 609 motivated students and 57 well-qualified teachers, our school plays an important role in the life of the town. The magnificent school building with its spacious, wellequipped
classrooms and wide, well-lit corridors is an ideal place for both teaching and studying. Thanks to the educational system students can acquire a high-level knowledge in
every field from Information Technology, Robotics, foreign languages, sports to Arts and Science subjects.
BISS participated in Comenius and Erasmus+ projects. Students, their parents, relatives, school staff and even village community have been understanding and have made a great
contribution to the projects. Students of BISS like national dances, songs, they take part in national festivals in their district and region. Teachers and students have received several regional and national awards. The school is currently promoting student-centred learning by introducing Project-Based work - in subjects such as Hungarian English, history, science, P.E., theatre, music and dance, language and cooperation skills.
Robotics has been taught for 11 years in our school. We have already taken part in FLL and WRO competitions. Since 2012 we have had our own Robotics event, called RobotOlimpia on which 82 groups participated last year. They are the organizator of World Robot Olympiad.Participating in this project would be very useful for teachers to gain international experience in digital and distance learning in STEM (Scince, Technology, Engireering, Maths) field and to know more about other European countries, their culture, expand horizons, to know and improve more foreign languages.
Hajdúböszörményi Bocskai István Gimnázium (BISS)meets the idea that studying is a life-long process, in which teaching activities and physical, mental and social study environment
is designed for students to achieve expected learning outcomes.
Hajdúböszörményi Bocskai István Gimnázium has several subject based recreational courses for more capable students, such as: Union of True Chemistry, Robotics Club, Debating Club, Moonstone Club and Union of Young Researchers. School has a group of active teachers, who have formed a club on a voluntary basis called "Teachers study teaching". This informal club is focused on experimenting innovative teaching methods. Currently there are 22 teachers out of 57, who are participating in giving open classes and developing best pedagogical materials.
The school looks to the future and works to develop new and innovative projects that fit into the needs of this century such as the use of ICTs, social skills, the integration of different cultures or the environmental respect. They are eager to get involved in Erasmus+, as they think that it will enrich our students in many different ways.Hajdúböszörményi Bocskai István Gimnázium has already worked with other educational institutions from different countries, several students exchanges have been developed during the last years, with a high school from Boston (MA), USA.
